Description:

Functions as an Academic Instructor in a classroom setting, providing instruction in skills necessary to master academic competencies.  Provides instruction, administers tests and evaluates progress in reading, writing, social studies, science and mathematics understanding and proficiency.  Provides remedial materials and instruction when required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages the classroom by providing lessons that address student learning styles and needs and incorporating individualized, paired and group learning experiences for students.
  • Promotes a positive and desirable atmosphere within the classroom setting to ensure maximum learning.
  • Provides classroom instruction, guidance and supervision in the use of the Center Information System (CIS).
  • Follows accountability procedures and counsels students regarding the importance of class attendance.
  • Strives to achieve Center and departmental goals, and helps the Center meet targeted standards in terms of Performance Measurement Standards.
  • Conducts class in compliance with Policy and Requirements Handbook, Technical Assistance Guides, Corporate Standard Operating Procedures, Regional CDSS Plan, Center Operating Procedures, and appropriate Class Course Guides.
  • Ensures that all required materials and equipment are maintained, inventoried and being used correctly.
  • Maintains and secures classrooms, storage area, materials and equipment.
  • Provides employability skills, social skills, diversity training and conflict resolution training to students during the Career Development Period.
  • Arranges classroom to facilitate easy access to materials, student work folders, class information and suppliers.
  • Describe goals, performance expectations and standards, and articulate how their individual performance supports the admission, career reparation, career development and career transition of students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor Degree in Education and two years of teaching experience, preferably at the secondary level.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Concentration in Secondary or Adult Education preferred. Advanced degree highly desirable. Experience with at risk or culturally deprived youth highly preferred. 

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATIONS:

A State Teacher's Certificate is required. A valid Regular Driver License is required.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:  

 7:30 am - 4:30 pm Mon. - Fri.; OFF Sat. & Sun.
